About the school

It is the earliest and only educational institution in the coastal village of Veli. The school was started at Palliyanganam in 1894 in connection with St. Thomas Church established by Portuguese Missioneries in 1871. In 1941 a new building was constructed for the children graduating from the pre primary class. When the church expanded in 1948 the preprimary classes were discontinued and the school became the Lower Primary School. Mr.Kuttappan sir was the first Headmaster.

In 1948, the school was shifted to the present building and named as St. Thomas LPS. At the begining, the school had different divisions for each grade. The School is functioning under the authority of Trivandrum Latin Archdiocese. The school belongs to Poundkadavu ward of Thiruvananthapuram corporation, is under the jurisdiction of Kaniypuram subdistrict office.

Due to some physical conditions the number of children decreases and today it is reduced to only one division and became uneconomical. In the year 2022-2023 Mrs. Letisia Teacher has become the headmistress of the school. At that time, including headmistress the school had 4 teachers and 20 students. Due to the deplorable conditions of the school, the children express the lack of interest in coming.
So, the local manager Fr.Lenin Fernandez and members of the church committee unveiled the renovation plans of the school and the school was rebuilt in the month of April and May 2023. The new building includes office room, staff room, 4 class rooms and 1 computer room. At present four teachers including the Headmistress and communicative English teacher appointed by the local management are working here.
