About the school
Mampally is an area crowded with Fishermen and coir workers. Their lives are rich with the background music of the sea and the backwaters.Mampally is adjascerit to Kaikara which was blessed with the birth of Mahakavi Kumaranasan. In the past, this was a centre where the illiterate people were brought together and taught by some one or two people. This instruction functioned like a house in those days. In 1987, Fr.Andrews, who was the local manager built a building on the west side and a compound wall on the north, with the support of the parish. Some more renovation works were done at the time of Fr.Wilfred.
In the annals of history this coastal village stands with thousands of legendary tales. Once it was a base for European powers like Portuguese,Dutch and English who had come to charge the history of India by asserting their supremacy.Towards the end of 15th century, the Portuguese set foot here. Along with them the christian Missionaries also arrived here and they propagated education. As a result, this small institution started its functioning in a thatched building measuring 82 ft. in length and 17ft. in width. Then it was taken over by the church.
Later it was upgraded to a primary school with classes upto fifth standard. Before the birth of Kerala state, the teachers were paid from the church. After 1956 EMS Government iritegrated the school and the government took over the distribution of teachers' salary. In the early days there was only a small building on the front side of the road. During the period of 1961-1962 at the time of Fr. James Ameda, an office room adjascent to the school and the front wall were built. The thatched roof was replaced with tiles with the help of the parish Shri S. Devasahayam sir was the headmaster there.
There was an Arabic teacher and a sewing teacher worked in this school with 360 students. Arabic was part time. As the number of children increased, a classroom was added to it in 1965. Shri Antony sir was the Headmaster at that time. In 1968. Fr. Clareric who was the parish vicar, built the building on the south side for the first standard. Gradually it was increased to eight divisions. The school ground was without a compound wall. It caused many issues.
