About the school
St. Aloysius is a primary school located in a small village called Arayathuruthy in Sharkara village in Chirayinkeezh taluk. It is an island surrounded by water on all four sides. One kilometer west of it is the Arabian Sea. Anchuthengu Kayal is located on the north-south, Vamanapuram lake is on the eastsouth,and Muthalappozhi is five kilometers away on the southwest. The school was established in 1917. The surrounding lush greenery with coconut trees and arecanut groves make the school more beautiful.
A school is one of the essential elements for the creation of a society which is a breeding ground of noble qualities. Rev: Fr. David Fernandez donated 60 cents of land. The school was first started in an Olappura. It is the only public institution in this village which has witnessed historical truths and historical moments. From the evidence collected from ancestors, the school stood as a refugee centre during the floods of 1908 and 1978.
This school was established by including classes one to five as per the procedure of that time.According to the records found in the school, in the early days classes 1, 2 and 3 were taught for one hour and classes 4 and 5 were taught full time. By 1962, the 5th class became the upper primary section as per the changes in the education scheme at the government level. There are three teachers including headmistress. Later children from south Arayathurthy and Poothura came here to study.
90% students are below poverty line. Children of coir workers and fishermen mostly study here.It is recorded that students of all religions studied in this school regardless of caste and creed. Possessors of high personality are moulded. This school is underthe control of the Latin Archdiocese of Trivandrum.
